The minister pointed out a significant shift in the country’s disaster management strategy—from a relief-focused approach to a rescue-oriented one—prioritizing the protection of human lives during emergencies.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), established to respond swiftly to calamities, has garnered recognition for its efficiency and expertise. Within a short period, the NDRF has not only proven its reliability domestically but has also earned credibility on the global stage for its exemplary work, he added.

Shah noted that while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) steps in during natural calamities, the NDA government addresses the impact of “man-made” crises.
He praised the collaborative efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in steering Andhra Pradesh toward recovery and growth. Shah highlighted that under Naidu’s effective administrative, financial, and developmental strategies, the State is regaining its momentum. Simultaneously, PM Modi’s support has brought in over ₹3 lakh crore in investments and aid in just the past six months, he added.
Speaking on key projects, Shah announced that the Union Cabinet recently approved a financial package of ₹11,000 crore for the revival of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, ensuring it remains a source of pride for the State. He also addressed the Amaravati capital city project, emphasizing that the Centre, in alignment with Naidu’s vision, facilitated ₹27,000 crore in loans through HUDCO and the World Bank after years of neglect by the previous regime.
Reaffirming the NDA’s commitment to Andhra Pradesh, Shah stated, “We are dedicated to the State’s progress and will continue to support its development journey.”
During his visit, Shah virtually laid the foundation for the new ‘Integrated Shooting Range’ at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad and inaugurated the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Tirupati.
Key figures present at the event included Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, Union Minister for Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu, Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and NDRF Director General Piyush Anand.

Vijayawada: Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unwavering support for Andhra Pradesh’s growth, stating that the Centre has sanctioned projects exceeding ₹3 lakh crore for the State in the past six months. This commitment underscores the Centre’s dedication to driving development across sectors.
During his two-day visit to Vijayawada, Shah participated in the 20th Raising Day celebrations of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at Kondapavuluru in Krishna district. He also inaugurated the southern campus of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and the 10th Battalion campus of the NDRF near Vijayawada, signaling the government’s focus on strengthening disaster management capabilities in southern India.
Additionally, Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various infrastructure and disaster preparedness projects worth approximately ₹220 crore. These initiatives are expected to enhance disaster response mechanisms and contribute to the overall development of the region.
Highlighting India’s leadership in disaster management, Shah praised the NDRF for its outstanding role in implementing the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) policies. “The NDRF’s tireless efforts have established India as a global leader in disaster management,” he remarked.
He also spotlighted India’s significant achievements in disaster-resilient infrastructure, particularly through the establishment of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), which has garnered international recognition. “India is setting benchmarks for disaster preparedness and resilience worldwide,” Shah added.
During his address, Shah stressed the importance of building robust infrastructure to mitigate the impact of natural calamities, reiterating the government’s focus on a “zero casualty” approach. The newly inaugurated facilities are expected to play a key role in advancing this goal by providing advanced training and resources to disaster management personnel.
Shah’s visit underscored the Centre’s commitment to Andhra Pradesh’s development, with special focus on disaster management, infrastructure, and regional growth.
