5-Minute Microwave Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 tsp baking powder (a pinch)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp milk (any type you prefer)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (optional, for extra gooeyness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mug: Use a large microwave-safe mug (at least 12 oz capacity) to avoid overflowing. Lightly grease the mug with a bit of oil or butter.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In the mug, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir well to remove any lumps.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Add the milk, oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract (if using). Stir until you get a smooth batter, making sure there are no lumps.
  4. Add Chocolate Chips: If using, sprinkle the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate into the batter and gently mix them in.
  5. Microwave: Microwave the mug on high for 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on your microwave’s power. Start with 1 minute 30 seconds and check if it’s done; if not, microwave for 10–15 seconds more. The cake should rise and look set but moist on top.
  6. Cool and Serve: Let the mug cake cool for a minute or two before enjoying. It can be enjoyed straight from the mug, or you can top it with whipped cream, ice cream, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
