According to Cricbuzz, Suryakumar Yadav is poised to make his return for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 very soon. He has received clearance from the National Cricket Academy and is expected to join the team on Friday (April 5).
The top-ranked T20I batter last participated in competitive cricket in December 2023, where he notched a century in the third T20I against South Africa. However, during that series, he sustained a grade 2 tear in his ankle, requiring surgery.
Following the ankle injury, Suryakumar underwent surgery for a sports hernia, further prolonging his recovery as he underwent rehabilitation at the NCA facility in Bengaluru.
The 33-year-old will integrate with the team during their practice session at the Wankhede stadium as they gear up for their upcoming home match against Delhi Capitals, scheduled for April 7. His participation will be determined based on his fitness performance during the net session.
Suryakumar Mumbai Indians Return
Mumbai Indians have encountered a challenging start to the season under new captain Hardik Pandya, suffering three consecutive losses. They faced defeats against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad in home matches, followed by another loss to Rajasthan Royals earlier this week.
The return of Suryakumar Yadav is eagerly anticipated by the Mumbai Indians, as his presence brings a wealth of experience and batting prowess to the team. Known for his ability to anchor the innings and play aggressive strokes when needed, Yadav’s inclusion could provide a significant boost to Mumbai’s batting lineup. His return will be particularly welcomed given the team’s recent struggles and the need for stability in the middle order. As the Mumbai Indians aim to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming matches, Yadav’s return could prove to be a game-changer for the defending champions.
