“Kalki 2898 AD” Surges to Record-Breaking Success: Achieves Top Box Office Milestones and Gears Up for Sequel
Nag Ashwin’s “Kalki 2898 AD,” featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone, has just wrapped up a month in theaters, and it’s been a remarkable success. Over these 30 days, the film has risen to become the highest-grossing movie of the year so far and the fifth highest-grossing film in Indian cinema history. It is currently aiming to surpass “Jawan” and claim the fourth spot, needing an additional Rs 15 crore to achieve that. Additionally, “Kalki 2898 AD” has secured its place as the third highest-grossing Telugu film ever, behind SS Rajamouli’s “RRR” and “Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion.”
In its opening week, “Kalki 2898 AD” earned Rs 414.85 crore. During its second week, the film added Rs 128.5 crore to its total. By the third week, the film’s revenue decreased to Rs 56.1 crore, and in the fourth week, it fell to less than half that amount, reaching Rs 24.4 crore. Despite the slowdown in earnings, the film maintained a consistent performance, with daily collections never falling below Rs 1 crore throughout the month. As the film entered its fifth week, it reportedly earned Rs 1.25 crore, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. The film also faced competition from “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which grossed over Rs 21 crore on Friday. However, like in the previous four weeks, “Kalki” is expected to experience a significant boost in revenue over the weekend. The film’s total earnings now stand at Rs 625.10 crore.
Work on the sequel is already underway, with the team having completed 30-35 days of shooting for it.
