Hitting out at the BRS over its “loot” while in power, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday questioned if the opposition party is ready for a probe into alleged corruption in the implementation of Bathukamma sarees distribution, KCR kits, and other schemes during its regime.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly during the debate on the state budget for 2024-25, Reddy lambasted the previous government for allegedly siphoning off funds meant for welfare programs. He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, suggesting that an independent investigation should be conducted to uncover any malpractices.

Reddy pointed to specific schemes such as the Bathukamma sarees distribution, which was intended to provide sarees to women during the Bathukamma festival, and the KCR kits, designed to support new mothers with essential supplies. He alleged that these initiatives were marred by corruption and mismanagement, depriving the intended beneficiaries of their rightful support.
In his address, Reddy also focused on future development plans for Telangana. One of the key announcements was the expansion of the Metro rail to the old city of Hyderabad within the next four years. He highlighted that this expansion is part of the government’s broader vision to improve urban infrastructure, enhance public transportation, and stimulate economic growth in the historic areas of the city. The extension of the Metro rail is expected to ease traffic congestion, provide a reliable mode of transport, and boost local businesses.
The Chief Minister reiterated his administration’s commitment to prudent fiscal management and the effective implementation of welfare schemes. He assured the assembly that the current government would uphold the highest standards of governance and work diligently to address the needs of all citizens.
Reddy’s remarks have set the stage for a heated debate in the legislative assembly, with opposition parties likely to defend their record and counter the allegations. The call for a probe into past schemes adds a significant dimension to the political discourse, potentially influencing public opinion and the political landscape in Telangana.
As the budget session progresses, the government’s policies and future projects will be scrutinized, with a focus on how they plan to deliver
