Free Sand Scheme: Sensational Decision by the AP Government on Free Sand Supply… A Move to Reduce the Cost Burden…
The AP government, under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu, has taken a key decision to reduce the transportation cost burden on consumers in the free sand policy. The government has worked on regulating transportation charges for free sand supply across the state. Orders were issued to implement uniform transportation charges statewide. The government issued a GO fixing tariffs and slightly reducing charges based on distance. After discussions with sand transport vehicle owners, the transportation tariff was finalized. For distances up to 10 kilometers, the government suggested charging ₹13.5 per ton per kilometer for tractors, with exemptions for up to 4.5 tons.
For six-wheel trucks, the government suggested charging ₹10.70 per ton per kilometer for up to 10 tons. For 10, 12, or 14-wheel trucks, it recommended charging ₹9.40 per ton per kilometer for up to 35 tons. Additionally, those who book sand online and opt for home delivery will have the sand delivered via truck.
Truck owners interested in transporting sand from reaches and stock points to consumers’ homes have been instructed to register with the mining department by district collectors. As a result, around 3,000 truck owners across districts have registered their vehicle details. Since all these trucks are equipped with GPS, the government is taking steps to ensure sand is delivered securely without diversion.
