Venom: The Last Dance Targets $70 Million Box Office Ahead of October 25 Release
Venom : The Last Dance claims the top spot at the box office, it would solidify the franchise’s stronghold in the comic-book film space, even with a projected slower start compared to its predecessors. The film, expected to open with around $70 million, may still dominate the weekend despite this being the lowest opening for the Venom trilogy, which began with the original 2018 film’s $80.2 million debut, followed by Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s $90 million.
The fact that Venom: The Last Dance could potentially secure first place, especially given the competition from Conclave, a critically acclaimed drama directed by Edward Berger with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score, demonstrates the franchise’s appeal and the loyalty of its fanbase. Even with somewhat modest box office projections, the Venom brand remains strong, and taking first place would mark a major success for both Sony and Tom Hardy, who has been the face of the franchise.
Directed by Kelly Marcel, who makes her debut in the director’s chair after writing the first two Venom films, The Last Dance continues the series’ overall positive trajectory, which has grossed $1.36 billion globally across its first two installments. Industry experts remain optimistic about its chances of staying competitive, especially after the lower-than-expected performance of Joker: Folie à Deux.
Should Venom: The Last Dance meet its $70 million opening target, it would also secure the second-highest comic-book film opening of 2024, just behind Deadpool & Wolverine, which raked in a massive $211.4 million.
Meanwhile, despite some films underperforming, the broader box office outlook for October remains relatively positive. According to Comscore, the first 13 days of the month have brought in approximately $209.7 million in earnings, marking a 4% increase over the same period last year. If Venom continues to attract audiences, it could further boost this trend and ensure a strong finish for 2024’s comic-book films.
