Nag Ashwin on Mahesh Babu as Lord Krishna in ‘Kalki 2’: It Would Be a Massive Success
Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi action film Kalki 2898 AD captivates audiences with its star-studded cast, including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan. Set against a mythological backdrop, the film showcases Prabhas as Karna and Amitabh as Ashwathama. Fans particularly enjoyed the second half, where Krishnakumar Balasubramanian played the pivotal role of Lord Krishna. This has sparked curiosity about who might portray Krishna in a potential sequel.
Nag Ashwin recently addressed casting rumors during a media interaction. Many speculated that actors like Nani or Mahesh Babu might take on the role. However, Ashwin clarified that he does not intend to expand Lord Krishna’s character into a fully-fledged role in the Kalki universe. If he decides to do so in the future, he would cast Mahesh Babu. “Mahesh’s involvement would lead to massive box office success,” Ashwin said. He also praised Mahesh’s performance in Khaleja, where the actor delivered a portrayal imbued with divine qualities, proving his capability to excel in mythological roles.
While fans continue to hope for Mahesh Babu’s addition to Kalki 2, Ashwin confirmed that the sequel currently does not include an expanded role for Lord Krishna. Still, he hinted that a collaboration between Mahesh, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone could create cinematic magic in the future.
Meanwhile, Mahesh Babu focuses on his upcoming project, SSMB29, directed by SS Rajamouli, which will begin production in 2025. Reports suggest Priyanka Chopra will play the female lead. Although Kalki 2 rumors persist, fans must wait for official announcements about the future of the franchise.
