Moong dal ras vada is a delicious and nutritious Indian snack made from split green gram (moong dal).
How To prepare:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup split green gram (moong dal), soaked for 4-6 hours
- 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust according to taste)
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 1/4 cup chopped curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
For Ras (Dipping Sauce):
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 2-3 green chilies
- A small piece of ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Preparation:
- Drain the soaked moong dal and transfer it to a blender. Grind it into a coarse paste without adding water. The consistency should be slightly coarse, not too smooth.
- Transfer the ground moong dal to a mixing bowl. Add chopped green chilies, grated ginger, chopped coriander leaves, chopped curry leaves, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix everything well to combine.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadhai over medium heat.
- Wet your palms with water, take a small portion of the moong dal mixture, and shape it into a small round ball. Flatten it slightly to give it the shape of a vada.
- Carefully slide the shaped vada into the hot oil. Fry the vadas in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove them from the oil and drain excess oil on paper towels.
- To prepare the ras (dipping sauce), grind grated coconut, green chilies, ginger, cumin seeds, and salt into a smooth paste. Add water gradually to adjust the consistency, making it slightly thin.
- Serve the crispy moong dal ras vadas hot with the prepared ras dipping sauce.
