In the first season, Chief Minister and PCC Chief Revanth Reddy welcomed three BRS MLAs into the party. Recently, he started the second season. The BRS, already shocked by the departure of former Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, faced another setback as Jagityal MLA Dr. Sanjay joined Congress in the presence of CM Revanth Reddy.
Chief Minister and PCC Chief Revanth Reddy, who previously inducted three BRS MLAs into the Congress during the first season, has now started the second season. Already shocked by the departure of former Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, the BRS has faced another blow as Jagityal MLA Dr. Sanjay joined Congress in the presence of CM Revanth Reddy.
CM Revanth Reddy welcomed Dr. Sanjay into the party by draping a Congress scarf around him. Dr. Sanjay, who contested twice from BRS and defeated Congress candidate Jeevan Reddy both times, made an unexpected switch. Dr. Sanjay, known to be close to KCR’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha, surprised the BRS ranks with his move.
With Dr. Sanjay’s induction, the number of BRS MLAs who have joined Congress has reached five, including Danam Nagender, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Tellam Venkatrao, Kadiyam Srihari, and Dr. Sanjay.
Jeevan Reddy, a key opponent of Kalvakuntla Kavitha, was aiming to defeat him even before the state’s formation. Despite losing in 2014, Kavitha managed to win in the subsequent two elections. Dr. Sanjay, who contested against senior Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy in 2018 and 2023 from Jagityal, made a surprising decision to join Congress. This move sparked discussions as Dr. Sanjay’s name was never mentioned in talks about potential Congress joiners.
The political scene in Jagityal has taken another turn with both primary opponents since 2014 now in the same party. With both Dr. Sanjay and T. Jeevan Reddy in Congress, there are doubts about how they will work together, given their history of rivalry.
CM Revanth Reddy is not only accelerating governance but also showing the same zeal in the operation to attract BRS leaders to Congress. Within a short span, he has inducted key leaders and sitting MLAs from BRS into Congress, delivering a significant blow to KCR. The BRS, which won 39 MLA seats in the assembly elections but failed to open an account in the recent parliamentary elections, is now facing a crisis with its MLAs joining Congress.
Political analysts predict that the exodus from BRS might continue, with Congress leaders claiming that half of the BRS MLAs might join them. Discussions are ongoing about CM Revanth Reddy’s strategy to potentially merge the BRSLP with Congress, effectively reversing a previous BRS operation. Congress aims to strengthen its position and become the voice of the voiceless in the assembly.
Meanwhile, the BRS is struggling to find a counter-strategy to these developments.
