Veteran actor Nandamuri Balakrishna finds himself embroiled in controversy after a video of him shoving actress Anjali on stage went viral. The incident took place at a promotional event for the upcoming Telugu film ‘Gangs of Godavari.’ Singer Chinmayi Sripaada has weighed in on why Anjali might have laughed off the incident, suggesting she was attempting to defuse the situation. Chinmayi emphasized how ‘men in authority’ often create difficulties for women through their misconduct.
In the footage, Balakrishna, a special guest at the event, is seen instructing the film’s cast, including Anjali, to step aside. Moments later, he shoves Anjali, nearly causing her to fall. Although Anjali was seen laughing along with Neha Shetty and others on stage, the video ignited outrage on social media. Some critics targeted Anjali for laughing instead of reacting differently on stage.
Singer Chinmayi Sripaada came to Anjali’s defense and condemned the trolls. In a tweet, Chinmayi remarked, “A major issue I notice from people sharing this is ‘Look at her laughing. She should have __‘. It is impossible to react in the way you expect as you view this on your device. This moral policing and holier-than-thou attitude—acting like paragons of virtue—fail to comprehend the situation.”
She further added, “Society itself refuses to hold powerful men accountable for their misconduct, especially when they have wealth, caste, and political influence. Don’t tell women what to say or how to act when you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.”
