Ashwath Marimuthu: Dragon Will Appeal to Fans of Oh My Kadavule and Love Today
Director Ashwath Marimuthu is gearing up for the release of his much-anticipated second directorial, Dragon, which is set to hit the big screens on February 21. Following the success of his debut film Oh My Kadavule, Ashwath assures that Dragon will be just as impactful and meaningful as his first venture.
The film, produced under Kalpathi S Aghoram’s AGS Entertainment, with Archana Kalpathi serving as the creative producer, features Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead role. Ashwath describes Pradeep’s character as a deeply flawed individual who undergoes significant changes over time. He explains, “It’s a family drama that revolves around a man who is a superstar during his college years but finds himself struggling to navigate real life. The film explores how he transforms through various life experiences.”
Ashwath emphasizes that Dragon will cater to audiences who appreciated Oh My Kadavule as well as Pradeep Ranganathan’s last hit, Love Today. He notes, “Both films shared similar storytelling styles and delivered powerful messages by the end. I’ve made sure Dragon follows the same path, blending elements from both films while ensuring it is crafted with a lot of heart.” He adds that the film is designed to strike an emotional chord with viewers, making it a memorable cinematic experience.
Discussing his collaboration with Pradeep Ranganathan, Ashwath reveals, “We have been friends for a long time, but I was always conscious of the fact that I was working with a professional actor who has a substantial market presence. His performance in Love Today was widely appreciated, and in Dragon, he brings a different dimension to his acting.”
Adding further depth to the story, acclaimed filmmaker Mysskin takes on the role of the film’s antagonist. However, Ashwath explains that his character is not a traditional villain. “He plays the role of a college principal—a noble and ethical man. The film revolves around the dynamic between a flawed hero and an antagonist who embodies righteousness,” he shares. This unique contrast between protagonist and antagonist is expected to make Dragon a compelling watch.
The film also features celebrated actress Sneha in a special guest appearance, playing an “angelic character” who has an important presence in the narrative. Meanwhile, acclaimed filmmaker and actor Gautham Vasudev Menon portrays the vice president of a company, a role that is expected to add another layer of intrigue to the storyline.
In addition to its strong male characters, Dragon boasts a talented female cast with Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar playing the leading ladies. Ashwath stresses the significance of their roles in the film, stating, “Just like in Oh My Kadavule, where the female characters had a clear purpose in the story, Dragon also ensures that the women have impactful roles that contribute to the narrative. Their presence is not just ornamental; they play key parts in shaping the protagonist’s journey.”
With a well-rounded ensemble cast, Dragon promises to be a heartfelt story about personal growth, moral dilemmas, and the contrast between perception and reality. The film is expected to deliver a strong message while offering audiences a mix of drama, emotion, and entertainment.
As the release date draws closer, anticipation for Dragon continues to build. Fans of Ashwath’s debut film and Pradeep’s Love Today are eager to see how the director blends his signature storytelling style with fresh themes. Ashwath concludes, “I have put my heart into this film, ensuring that it resonates with viewers on multiple levels. Dragon is not just a film—it’s an experience that will stay with the audience long after they leave the theater.”
With its engaging storyline, well-developed characters, and meaningful themes, Dragon is poised to be a major success at the box office, making it one of the most awaited Tamil films of the year.
