Ranked 87th in the world, Diaz Acosta secured a 6-3, 6-4 win, clinching the victory on his sixth match point.
Argentine wild card Facundo Diaz Acosta secured his first ATP title in Buenos Aires on Sunday, defeating Nicolas Jarry, the player who had previously upset Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals. Ranked 87th in the world, Diaz Acosta claimed a 6-3, 6-4 victory, sealing the triumph on his sixth match point. Prior to this week, the 23-year-old left-hander had only won four tour-level matches in his career. Diaz Acosta will now rise to 59th in the world rankings.
On Saturday, Chilean world number 21 Jarry had celebrated the biggest win of his career by defeating second-ranked Alcaraz in straight sets.
Alcaraz’s loss extended his title drought to nine tournaments since his Wimbledon triumph last July.
