Gur Choorma Laddoo is a traditional Rajasthani sweet made with wheat flour, jaggery (gur), and ghee. These laddoos are delicious and packed with energy, making them perfect for festivals or special occasions.

Simple recipe to make it:

Ingredients:
  • Whole Wheat Flour: 2 cupsJaggery (Gur): 1 cup, gratedGhee: 1/2 cup (for making the dough) + 1/4 cup (for binding)Cardamom Powder: 1 teaspoonSesame Seeds: 2 tablespoons (optional)Desiccated Coconut: 2 tablespoons (optional)Chopped Nuts: 1/4 cup (almonds, cashews, etc.)Water: As needed (for kneading the dough)Pinch of Salt (optional)
  • Instructions:
  • Prepare the Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt (if using).Heat 1/2 cup of ghee until it melts. Pour this hot ghee over the flour and mix it well using a spoon initially (as it will be hot), then use your hands to combine until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.Add water little by little and knead into a stiff dough, similar to what you would for making puris.Cover the dough and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Make the Choorma:
  • Divide the dough into equal portions and roll them into thick discs (about 4-5 inches in diameter).Heat a tawa or griddle and cook these discs on medium heat until they are golden brown on both sides. You can apply a little ghee while cooking for extra flavor.Once cooked, allow them to cool completely.Break the discs into small pieces and grind them into a coarse powder using a food processor or blender.
  • Prepare the Jaggery Mixture:
  • In a pan, add the grated jaggery and a little water. Heat on low flame until the jaggery melts completely, forming a syrup.Add cardamom powder, sesame seeds, desiccated coconut, and chopped nuts to the syrup. Mix well.
  • Combine Choorma and Jaggery:
  • Pour the jaggery mixture over the choorma (coarsely ground dough) and mix well until everything is combined.If the mixture seems too dry, add a little more melted ghee to help bind it.
  • Shape the Laddoos:
  • While the mixture is still warm, take small portions of it and shape into round laddoos by pressing them firmly between your palms.Let the laddoos cool completely before storing.
  • Serve:
  • Enjoy the Gur Choorma Laddoos as a sweet treat! You can store them in an airtight container for a week or more.
