Creating a Hung Curd Tiramisu is a delightful twist on the classic Italian dessert, substituting traditional mascarpone cheese with hung curd for a lighter and tangier version.
Prepartion of Tiramisu:
Ingredients:
For the hung curd layer:
- 2 cups plain yogurt
- Cheesecloth or muslin cloth
For the coffee-soaked ladyfingers:
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
- 1 packet (about 200g) ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi)
For assembling:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- Cocoa powder, for dusting
- Dark chocolate shavings, for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare the Hung Curd:
- Line a sieve with cheesecloth or muslin cloth and place it over a bowl.
- Pour the plain yogurt into the lined sieve.
- Let the yogurt drain in the refrigerator for at least 4-6 hours or overnight until it thickens and excess liquid is drained out. You’ll be left with thick hung curd.
- Prepare the Coffee Mixture:
- Brew strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature.
- Stir in coffee liqueur (if using) into the cooled coffee.
- Assemble the Tiramisu:
- In a shallow dish, pour the coffee mixture.
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they’re soaked but not soggy. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish (such as a square baking dish or individual serving glasses).
- Layer with Hung Curd:
- In a bowl, mix the hung curd with powdered sugar until well combined.
- Spread a layer of the sweetened hung curd over the soaked ladyfingers.
- Repeat Layers:
- Repeat the process by adding another layer of soaked ladyfingers on top of the hung curd layer.
- Follow with another layer of sweetened hung curd.
- Finish and Chill:
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
- Serve:
- Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings.
- Slice and serve chilled. Enjoy your delicious Hung Curd Tiramisu
