India’s traditional PC market, encompassing desktops, notebooks, and workstations, witnessed a 6.6% year-over-year decline in shipments in 2023, totaling 13.9 million units. HP emerged as the market leader, as per a recent report by the International Data Corporation (IDC).
The report highlights contrasting trends within the categories: desktops grew by 6.7% year-over-year, while notebooks and workstations experienced declines of 11.1% and 14% year-over-year, respectively.
Bharath Shenoy, Senior Research Analyst at IDC India, attributed the downturn to subdued consumer demand post-pandemic, resulting in significant shipment corrections in the latter half of 2022 and the initial months of 2023.
However, the market showed signs of recovery in the second half of 2023, posting a 12.9% year-over-year growth. The fourth quarter of 2023 saw a notable upswing, with an 11.4% year-over-year growth, driven by robust performances in both desktops (16.8% year-over-year growth) and notebooks (9.9% year-over-year growth).
