The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the complete schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, ensuring all matches will take place in India. The playoffs will unfold in Ahmedabad and Chennai, reflecting last year’s finalists’ home advantage, with Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans setting the stage. Specifically, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator on May 21 and 22, while Chepauk in Chennai will see Qualifier 2 and the final on May 24 and 26.
The season kicks off with Chennai Super Kings facing Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk on April 8, marking a night game. This move aligns with the BCCI’s strategy to hold the entire tournament in India, countering speculations of a partial UAE shift. BCCI secretary Jay Shah, in discussions with Cricbuzz, had previously dispelled such rumors.
IPL Final Set to be Host at Chepauk
Addressing the challenge of coordinating the IPL schedule with India’s General Elections, the BCCI has meticulously planned to avoid date clashes across the various phases from April 19 to June 1. Dharamsala and Guwahati are slated to host select matches, emphasizing the league’s expansive Indian footprint.
A notable matchup, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians – the IPL’s most triumphant teams – will clash once on April 14 in Mumbai. Delhi Capitals, after the WPL 2024 stint, will play their first home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium(Delhi). CSK’s final home game, potentially MS Dhoni’s last at Chepauk and in the IPL if they don’t make the playoffs, is against Rajasthan Royals on May 12. Their last league match is in Bengaluru six days later. The anticipated MI vs. CSK game is set for April 14, coinciding with the Tamil New Year.
