In India, Ayurvedic medicines have traditionally been utilized for disease(health) prevention. However, there has been a gradual shift towards the use of allopathic (English) medicines, which are often priced higher due to global demand. In response to the escalating prices of allopathic medicines, the central government has initiated measures to establish Janaushadhi centers, making essential medications accessible to the public at affordable rates through public pharmaceutical outlets. These centers, launched in 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, operate under the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Paryojana (PMBJP) campaign.
