Chennai Super Kings’ clash against Punjab Kings on May 1 will see the availability of Bangladesh pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board has extended his leave for one more day for the ongoing Indian Premier League. The left-armer has made a flying start to his CSK stint, having picked up 10 wickets in 5 matches.
Earlier, the BCB had issued a No-objection certificate to Mustafizur till April 30 for the IPL. However, the board has now allowed him to stay on for one more day to feature in one more game for his franchise.
“Mustafizur was supposed to return after April 30, but now we have allowed him to stay back for their match on May 1st. He is expected to arrive on May 2 for the T20 series against Zimbabwe (from May 3 to 12), and later we are not ready to release him as we want to rest him for a few days before the World Cup,” confirmed a BCB official to Cricbuzz on Monday.
Mustafizur Rahman Will be Available from May 1
Bangladesh are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against USA from May 21-25 to get acclimatized to the conditions in the USA. Two of their four group stage games at the showpiece event are in that country. Bangladesh have played only two T20Is in the USA before – against West Indies in Florida in 2018.
The extension of Mustafizur’s stay for the IPL match on May 1 underscores the importance of his contributions to the Chennai Super Kings. His impressive form with the ball has been a key factor in CSK’s campaign so far, and his availability for an additional game will provide a significant boost to the team’s bowling attack. As Mustafizur prepares to join the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming T20 series against Zimbabwe, his continued success in the IPL will not only benefit CSK but also bode well for Bangladesh’s upcoming international fixtures.
