Oscar-winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia is set to direct a documentary for Prime Video, chronicling the final days of tennis icon Roger Federer’s illustrious career, as reported by Deadline. This feature-length documentary will delve into the last 12 days of the career of the widely regarded greatest tennis player of all time.
In discussing the project, Federer revealed, “Initially, the idea was to capture the final moments of my professional tennis career so that I could have it later on to show my family and friends.” He acknowledged his past tendency to avoid cameras during significant moments but saw this as an exception, intending it for personal use. However, the footage unexpectedly evolved into a profoundly personal journey, leading to a collaboration with Prime Video due to its global reach and prominence in the film industry.
Amazon described the untitled documentary as an “originally a home video never intended for public viewing,” capturing Federer in his most vulnerable and candid moments as he bids farewell to the sport and his devoted fans. The film aims to resonate with both tennis enthusiasts and broader audiences worldwide.
Renowned for winning 20 grand slams, including eight Wimbledons, Federer holds a lasting legacy as a beloved player known for his elegant style and gentlemanly demeanor on and off the court.
