Rishabh Pant’s remarkable rehabilitation journey following a near-fatal accident in 2022 has shown remarkable progress, raising hopes for his potential return to the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Recent updates reveal that Pant has actively participated in a warm-up match in Alur, near Bengaluru, marking his first match appearance after a long hiatus.
Sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and his IPL franchise, the Delhi Capitals, have indicated that the 26-year-old cricketer is likely to lead the team in IPL 2024. However, due to his recovery phase, Pant will focus solely on batting, with another player taking over the wicketkeeping duties.
Reports suggest that Pant’s mobility has not been compromised, with sources confirming his ability to run and bat with the same agility and freedom as before the accident in December 2022. Currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Pant also underwent treatment in London last month, facilitated by the BCCI.
There is a sense of optimism surrounding Pant’s potential participation in the IPL, pending clearance from NCA authorities. While the Delhi Capitals franchise has faith in Pant’s leadership, they have decided to assign wicketkeeping responsibilities to another player. In Pant’s absence, David Warner captained the team in the previous IPL season.
The IPL schedule is yet to be finalized, pending the announcement of general election dates by the Election Commission of India. The BCCI is considering starting the IPL tentatively on March 22 or 23, with the tournament concluding on May 26, a Sunday, adjusting the schedule based on the election schedules in various states.
Rishabh Pant’s recovery progress and potential comeback to competitive cricket mark a significant milestone, sparking enthusiasm among fans and stakeholders for IPL 2024.
