Ahead of the second Test against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka faced a setback as pace bowler Kasun Rajitha was ruled out of the concluding match of the series. The fixture is set to take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium from March 30. Asitha Fernando has been called up as Rajitha’s replacement, while the latter has returned home to commence rehabilitation work.
According to a statement from SLC on Wednesday, Kasun Rajitha sustained an injury to his left upper back area, rendering him unavailable for the second Test. Rajitha played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s victory in the opening Test in Sylhet, claiming eight wickets. His five-wicket haul in the second innings was instrumental in securing a massive 328-run win for his team.
The right-arm medium-fast bowler incurred the injury during the first Test but managed to play through it. Both teams have arrived in Chattogram ahead of the second game and are set to begin their preparations on Thursday. This Test is a part of the ICC Test Championship.

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan, who opted to make himself available for the contest, will be joining the team for preparations. Shakib recently featured for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Dhaka Premier League, where he scored a brisk 53 off 65 balls and claimed two wickets for 14 runs. His performance not only contributed to his team’s victory but also served as preparation for the crucial upcoming match against Sri Lanka.
Shakib Al Hasan’s inclusion adds significant depth to the Bangladesh squad, with his vast experience and all-round abilities poised to bolster their chances in the second Test. His recent form in domestic cricket, highlighted by a fine performance in the Dhaka Premier League, indicates his readiness to contribute effectively at the international level. As Bangladesh gears up for a challenging encounter against Sri Lanka, Shakib’s presence promises to be a valuable asset, both on and off the field, as they aim to level the series with a strong showing in Chattogram.
