Ram Gopal Varma Calls for Stars to Oppose Allu Arjun’s Arrest: ‘Three Died in Sridevi’s Crowd—Will Police Arrest Her in Heaven?’
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma strongly criticized the recent arrest of Allu Arjun after a tragic stampede during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. The incident led to the death of a female fan. Varma urged actors to protest the arrest and compared it to a similar incident involving the late actress Sridevi during the shooting of his film Kshana Kshanam.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Varma defended Allu Arjun and stated that people should not blame celebrities for incidents caused by their immense popularity. He wrote, “Every STAR should STRONGLY protest against @alluarjun’s ARREST because for any celebrity, whether it’s a FILM STAR or a POLITICAL STAR, is it a crime for them to be ENORMOUSLY POPULAR???”
Varma recalled the Kshana Kshanam tragedy, where a massive crowd eager to see Sridevi caused the death of three people. He rhetorically asked, “Three people died in the lakhs of crowd who came to see SRIDEVI during the shooting of my film. So, will the #TelanganaPolice now go to #HEAVEN to ARREST #Sridevi???”
Authorities arrested Allu Arjun on December 13 and detained him in Chanchalguda Central Jail. The Telangana High Court later granted him interim bail after initially ordering a 14-day judicial remand. The Chikkadapally Police charged Arjun and the theatre management for not informing them about the event, which they say led to the stampede.
Meanwhile, the son of the deceased fan remains hospitalized and relies on a ventilator. Arjun pledged Rs 25 lakh to support the family. His father, Allu Aravind, visited the injured boy in the hospital and confirmed that his condition is improving.
