Apple just launched the 14-inch and 16-inch M4 MacBook Pros last week, but the rumor mill is abuzz with what’s coming next. In his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the Apple laptop will get a “true overhaul” in 2026.
Issues related to the display tech
The overhaul will include M6 chips built on 2nm technology, a new display technology and design, and a performance boost, Gurman says. Apple wanted to redesign the MacBook Pro in 2025, but issues related to the display tech have caused delays, he says.
Technology market analyst Omdia reported earlier this year that “Apple is highly likely to incorporate OLED into its MacBook Pro models as early as 2026,” while other analysts have said 2025 MacBook Pros will still have mini-LED displays, Macromer’s notes.
Including the MacBook Pro
That may help with Apple’s plans to slim down its entire lineup, including the MacBook Pro. In the meantime, the 2025 MacBook Pro models might get just chip upgrades to M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max.
Apple currently uses OLED panels on the M4 iPad Pros and iPhone X and up and is tipped to include the display tech on the next-gen iPhone SE.
The latest M4 MacBook Pros have a 24-hour battery life, Thunderbolt 5 support, an optional glare-resisting nano-texture display, and more, but the design has remained the same for the past few iterations. Stay tuned for our full reviews.
