Andre Russell’s explosive innings of 71 runs off 29 balls, complemented by Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 67 off 40 deliveries and Roston Chase’s all-round performance (37 off 20 and 2-19), guided West Indies to a commanding 37-run victory over Australia in the final T20I in Perth on Tuesday (February 13). This win provided a consolation for the visitors after Australia had already secured the series with wins in the previous two games.
Batting first, West Indies were struggling at 17/3 against Australia’s pace attack, with Xavier Bartlett and Jason Behrendorff taking early wickets. However, Chase and Rovman Powell staged a brief counterattack, adding 55 runs off just 30 balls. Despite losing wickets in the middle overs, West Indies managed to post an imposing total of 220, the highest score by a visiting side in Australia in T20Is.
In response, Australia got off to a strong start with David Warner leading the charge with 81 off 49 balls. However, his partners failed to match his scoring rate, and with crucial wickets falling at regular intervals, Australia fell short of the target, finishing at 183/5 in 20 overs.
Chase and Andre Russell played pivotal roles with the ball, dismissing Warner and Josh Inglis to derail Australia’s chase. Despite a late cameo from Tim David, West Indies comfortably defended their total to end the tour on a positive note.
