At 9:28 am, the Sensex was at 72,985, registering a loss of 157 points, while the Nifty saw a decline of 36 points, closing at 22,176. The rupee initiated trading at Rs 82.88 against the dollar.
In the Sensex-30 index, shares of L&T, Powergrid, M&M, Tata Motors, Sunpharma, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Ultratech Cement, Asian Paints, Titan, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Maruti, and Axis Bank were trading positively, contributing to gains. However, Bharti Airtel and Kotak Mahindra Bank shares were among the losers.
The US markets concluded Friday at record highs. However, major Asia-Pacific indices faced negativity today, influenced by a sell-off in tech stocks and Eurozone inflation data. Japanese markets, on the other hand, achieved record highs. In the international market, the price of a barrel of Brent oil stands at $81.22. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) showed positive activity by buying shares worth a net Rs 1,276.09 crore on Friday, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) also engaged in buying shares worth Rs 176.68 crore.
