Live-Action Tangled Remake Announced with Michael Gracey as Director
Over a decade after the release of Tangled, Disney has announced plans to adapt the beloved animated film into live-action. Michael Gracey, known for The Greatest Showman, will direct the project, which joins Disney’s growing lineup of live-action remakes.
Although Disney has not revealed many details about the reimagined Rapunzel tale, reports suggest the storyline will closely mirror the 2010 Oscar-nominated animated feature. Deadline describes the film as a “revival” of the original movie.
The animated Tangled introduced Mandy Moore as the voice of Rapunzel, Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, and Donna Murphy as the villainous Mother Gothel. The film grossed $592 million globally and inspired the short film Tangled Ever After in 2012 and the animated TV series Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure in 2017.
Alan Menken and Glenn Slater created the film’s acclaimed music, including the Grammy and Oscar-nominated I See the Light, When Will My Life Begin?, and Mother Knows Best. The movie also earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.
In addition to Tangled, Disney is preparing several other live-action films, including How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch, Moana, Snow White, and Mufasa: The Lion King.
