Ceremony of the new Telangana
In his address at the oath-taking ceremony of the new Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President, Mahesh Kumar Goud, he referred to the party’s victory in the 2023 Assembly elections as a “semifinal” and highlighted the 2029 election as the ultimate goal.
He expressed confidence that the “real victory” for Congress would come when Rahul Gandhi becomes India’s Prime Minister, symbolically hoisting the national flag from the Red Fort.
Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections
Revanth Reddy urged party members to focus on tireless efforts, stressing that securing 15 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections would mark a pivotal achievement for the party. He called for collective dedication to ensure this victory, signaling the importance of the next general elections for Congress’s future in Telangana.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted the significant steps his government has taken in fulfilling promises made during the election campaign, particularly focusing on agriculture and welfare measures.
the implementation of the farm loan waiver scheme
In his speech, he pointed to the implementation of the farm loan waiver scheme, which saw Rs 18,000 crore being credited to the bank accounts of 23 lakh farmers, alleviating their financial burdens. He also mentioned the phased implementation of the six guarantees announced by Sonia Gandhi, with the first two being delivered within 48 hours of taking office.
Reddy emphasized that the Congress party’s victory in Telangana came with the trust and support of the people, and his government has worked to honor those commitments. As the state prepares for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Reddy remains focused on securing Congress’s success, setting a target of winning 15 out of the 17 Lok Sabha seats.
Benefitted Telangana’s citizens
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also highlighted several welfare schemes that have benefitted Telangana’s citizens. The free bus travel facility for women through TGSRTC has been extensively used, with 85 crore women utilizing the service. This initiative aims to make public transportation more accessible and empower women.
Additionally, the Rajiv Arogyasri health scheme has been expanded, with the coverage limit now raised to Rs 10 lakh to ensure better medical access for poorer sections of society. The government is also providing free electricity up to 200 units to households, significantly reducing financial strain on low-income families.
To further support women in rural areas, domestic cooking gas cylinders are being sold at a subsidized rate of Rs 500, ensuring that poor women have access to affordable energy for cooking. These efforts reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable populations across Telangana.
“As promised, the government waived off farm loans up to Rs2 lakhs by August 15 to bring happiness to farmers. BRS leader Harish Rao had challenged that he would resign from his MLA post if the government waived farm loans by August 15. Why are the BRS leaders hiding and not resigning?” the Chief Minister asked.
Revanth Reddy also announced significant measures
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also announced significant measures to support the state’s agricultural sector, including a Rs 500 bonus per quintal for fine-quality paddy starting from the next farming season. This incentive aims to encourage farmers to produce higher-quality crops and improve their income.
On employment, Reddy emphasized that the government had fulfilled its promise to provide jobs, with 30,000 positions already filled within three months of coming to power. Recruitment for additional roles is ongoing, signaling the government’s commitment to reducing unemployment.
He also mentioned the establishment of the Young India Skill University to enhance the skills of the state’s youth and provide better opportunities for employment.
Development of Mucherla
Further plans include the development of Mucherla as a new city to further expand Hyderabad’s urban landscape and strengthen its position as a cosmopolitan hub. Additionally, Reddy has requested the party leadership to appoint a full-time TPCC president to ensure the continued success of welfare programs and to make Telangana a model state for the country.
