Thangalaan Sees Mixed Reviews but Strong Box Office Debut

Despite Criticism, Thangalaan Shines with Strong Box Office Performance and Vikram’s Acclaimed Acting

Thangalaan, released on Independence Day, has generated mixed reactions from critics and audiences alike. While many have critiqued the film’s execution, Vikram’s performance has been widely praised, with some even calling it his best work to date. The film made a strong start at the box office, earning Rs 13.3 crore on its opening day, which was a Thursday. Despite this promising beginning, Thangalaan experienced a significant drop in its earnings on the second day, with collections dipping by almost 65 percent to Rs 4.75 crore.

However, the film showed signs of recovery on the third day, a Saturday, with an 18.95 percent increase in earnings, bringing in Rs 5.65 crore. As the first weekend concluded, Thangalaan managed to maintain a steady pace, earning another Rs 5.65 crore on Sunday, according to early estimates. By the end of its first weekend, the film had accumulated a total collection of Rs 29.35 crore.

In comparison to other South Indian releases such as Double iSmart and Mr. Bachchan, Thangalaan has outperformed its competitors. Nevertheless, it has faced stiff competition from Demonte Colony 2. On Sunday, the Tamil version of Thangalaan had an occupancy rate of 40.63 percent, while the Telugu version saw a 38.41 percent occupancy. Chennai recorded the highest occupancy for the Tamil version, while Bengaluru saw the highest for the Telugu version.

Overall, the worldwide collection for Thangalaan stands at Rs 35.2 crore, showcasing its strong performance despite the mixed reviews and competition. The film’s box office journey continues as it navigates both praise for Vikram’s standout performance and challenges from competing releases.
