Wholewheat Malpua Recipe

Wholewheat Malpua Recipe

Wholewheat Malpua is a healthier twist on the traditional Indian sweet. It’s made with whole wheat flour instead of refined flour, which adds more fiber and nutrients.

Simple recipe to make Wholewheat Malpua:

Ingredients:

  • Whole wheat flour: 1 cup
  • Sugar: 1/2 cup (adjust to taste)
  • Milk: 1 cup (you can use dairy or non-dairy milk)
  • Banana: 1 ripe banana, mashed (optional for sweetness and flavor)
  • Cardamom powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Baking powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ghee or oil: For frying
  • Water: As needed (to adjust batter consistency)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Batter:
    • In a large bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, sugar, cardamom powder, and baking powder.
    • Gradually add milk to the dry ingredients, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
    • If using banana, add the mashed banana to the mixture and blend well. Adjust the consistency with water if the batter is too thick; it should be similar to pancake batter.
  2. Heat the Pan:
    • Heat a non-stick or cast-iron pan over medium heat. Add a little ghee or oil and spread it around.
  3. Cook the Malpua:
    • Pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot pan and spread it gently into a small circle.
    • Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges look cooked, then flip and cook the other side until golden brown.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve the Wholewheat Malpua warm. You can drizzle it with a bit of honey or sprinkle with nuts if desired.

Tips:

  • You can add chopped nuts or raisins to the batter for extra flavor.
  • Adjust the sweetness according to your preference. If you prefer a less sweet malpua, reduce the sugar amount.
