Bangladesh pace bowler Ebadot Hossain will miss the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, scheduled for June, as he won’t recover in time from his injury. Chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed this, stating that Ebadot had hoped to return for the tournament but wouldn’t be fit enough.
Ebadot suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Bangladesh’s series against Afghanistan in July 2023. Despite his efforts in rehabilitation, including strength training and sand field work, he has not regained full fitness. He has been out of competitive cricket since the Asia Cup and has missed subsequent series and tournaments, including the ongoing Dhaka Premier League.
Debashish explained that Ebadot’s recovery timeline doesn’t align with the T20 World Cup schedule. The typical recovery time for such an injury is eight to 12 months, and Ebadot’s surgery took place in December. Therefore, a return before October is unlikely, ruling him out of the World Cup.

On the other hand, Soumya Sarkar and Taijul Islam, who also suffered knee injuries, are expected to recover before the home series against Zimbabwe in May. Soumya injured his knee during a match against Sri Lanka, while Taijul injured his knee during a Test match against the same team. Both players are undergoing rehabilitation, with Soumya’s injury requiring conservative management and Taijul’s recovery expected to take some time. The Bangladesh team management is hopeful that both players will be fit for the Zimbabwe series, marking the start of their T20 World Cup preparation.
The absence of Ebadot Hossain will be a setback for Bangladesh, as his pace and skill would have added depth to their bowling attack in the T20 World Cup. However, the team will look to regroup and focus on maximizing the available resources to put up a strong performance in the tournament. With the hope that Soumya Sarkar and Taijul Islam recover in time, Bangladesh aims to field a competitive squad and make an impact on the global stage.
