Here’s When Apple Might Release Enhanced AirTag with Better Tracking

Apple might unveil its next-generation AirTag next year. As per Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is preparing for a new version of the AirTag, code-named “B589,” anticipated to debut in mid-2025. This edition is set to feature an improved chip and superior location tracking functionality.

What the AirTag 2 Might Offer
Currently, the AirTag uses Apple’s U1 chip for ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, allowing accurate location tracking at close distances. According to Gurman’s report, the AirTag 2 will feature a new and enhanced chip.

While the upgraded chip is a confirmed detail, the exact features of the AirTag 2 remain undisclosed. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo speculates that there might be integration with Apple’s anticipated AR/VR headset, the Vision Pro. This integration could potentially enable users to view the location of their AirTags within a virtual environment.
The initial AirTag launch triggered privacy concerns due to its anti-stalking features. It is uncertain whether Apple will further address these issues with the AirTag 2. However, some experts believe that Apple might introduce more granular controls over unwanted tracking or enhance notification systems for potential stalking scenarios.

Consumers will have to wait until mid-2025 to see the AirTag 2 officially unveiled. Nonetheless, this preview of Apple’s plans indicates a continued emphasis on innovation within the item-tracking domain.
