This action was taken by the police after BRS leaders announced a meeting at the home of Arekapudi Gandhi, a Serilingampally MLA who recently defected from the BRS to the Congress party. Tensions escalated when supporters of both Gandhi and BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy clashed earlier, leading to a confrontation at Reddy’s residence.

The house arrests, including prominent BRS leaders such as Harish Rao and Kaushik Reddy, were intended to prevent any disturbances, particularly with ongoing Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. BRS leaders protested, accusing the police and Congress of heavy-handed tactics and illegal detentions.
