Vijay Sethupathi Named His Son Surya to Honor a Childhood Friend’s Memory
Vijay Sethupathi is preparing for the release of his highly anticipated film Viduthalai Part 2, which will arrive in theatres on December 20. Fans eagerly await the actor’s performance in the sequel, and a story about the emotional reason behind his son’s name has recently resurfaced online.
According to a report by Koimoi, Vijay Sethupathi once revealed that he named his son Surya to honor a childhood friend who passed away. The actor explained that he wanted to keep his dear friend’s memory alive through this touching gesture.
Vijay met his wife, Jessie Sethupathi, while he was working in Dubai. Their relationship began online, and in 2003, he returned to India to marry her. The couple has two children—Surya, their eldest, and Shreeja, their younger daughter. Although Vijay always had an interest in cinema, his marriage and director Balu Mahendra’s encouragement motivated him to pursue acting seriously.
Surya has already left a mark in the film industry by playing his father’s childhood character in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, directed by Vignesh Shivan and starring Nayanthara. He also acted alongside Vijay in Sindhubaadh. Now, Surya is preparing for his debut as a lead actor in Phoenix, directed by stunt master Anl Arasu. The team had planned to release the film in November this year, but they postponed it and have not announced a new release date yet.
Meanwhile, director Vetrimaaran has helmed Viduthalai Part 2, which also stars Soori in a key role. The movie follows the gripping story of a police constable who faces a moral conflict while investigating a train derailment in 1987.
