Varun Dhawan’s Baby John Struggles Amid Pushpa 2’s Dazzling Triumph

Baby John Box Office Day 15: Varun Dhawan’s Film Hits a New Low with ₹20 Lakh on Second Wednesday, as Pushpa 2 Reigns Supreme

When Varun Dhawan debuted in Bollywood with Student of the Year, it was evident he had the potential to make a mark. Over time, he showcased his versatility with films like Badlapur and October, revealing a different side of his acting prowess. While he ventured into several comedy films, with mixed success, his performance in Bhediya brought box office success.

However, his latest release, Baby John, one of his most anticipated projects, failed to recreate the same impact. On its second Wednesday, the film recorded its lowest collection at ₹20 lakhs, and after 15 days, it has only managed to gross ₹40 crores, according to Sacnilk.

Directed by Kalees, the film had generated immense buzz since its teaser release, leaving audiences impressed. But as the release date approached, the excitement seemed to wane. Even with the advantage of a Christmas holiday release, the movie managed to collect only ₹11.25 crore on its opening day. To date, it hasn’t been able to match or surpass its initial figures.

In contrast, Allu Arjun’s blockbuster Pushpa 2 continues to dominate the box office, even a month after release. The film has surpassed ₹1200 crore in India, with its Hindi version contributing nearly ₹800 crore to the total earnings.

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan’s co-star, Rajpal, attributed Baby John’s failure to its status as a remake of the Tamil film Theri, which audiences had already seen. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal expressed that if the movie hadn’t been a remake, it could have been one of the finest films of his 25-year career. “Since Vijay had already done it, the audience was familiar with it, and that affected the film’s box office performance,” he remarked.
