Naidu for North Andhra soon to fast-track irrigation projects, says Minister Ramanaidu

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Irrigation, Ambati Ramanaidu, announced that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will soon visit the North Andhra region to personally oversee and fast-track major irrigation projects. The announcement reflects the State government’s commitment to ensuring equitable development and harnessing the full potential of the region’s water resources.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Ramanaidu emphasized that the Chief Minister is determined to bring rapid transformation to North Andhra, which has long been awaiting infrastructure and irrigation upgrades. “The government is prioritizing irrigation because it directly impacts agriculture, livelihoods, and industrial growth. The Chief Minister himself will soon be touring the region to review the progress and remove bottlenecks in key projects,” he said.

Reviving Long-Pending Projects

Minister Ramanaidu stated that the government is taking steps to expedite the completion of several pending irrigation works, including the Thotapalli Barrage, Vamsadhara Phase-II, and Polavaram Left Canal linkages that benefit the Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam districts.

He noted that previous delays in project execution had severely affected farmers and water availability. “Our goal is to revive and complete every project that was left midway during the previous administration. We have already directed officials to prepare detailed project reports and realistic timelines for completion,” he explained.

According to the Minister, these irrigation projects will not only improve agricultural productivity but also ensure better water management for drinking and industrial purposes. “Once these projects are completed, North Andhra will become self-reliant in water resources,” he added.

Chief Minister’s Vision for Balanced Growth

Ramanaidu highlighted that Chief Minister Naidu’s vision for Andhra Pradesh is centered around balanced regional development. “The CM believes that every region—be it Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra, or North Andhra—must develop uniformly. His upcoming visit will underline that commitment,” the Minister stated.

He added that Naidu’s tour will include site visits to major irrigation infrastructures, interactions with project engineers, and review meetings with district officials to assess progress. “The Chief Minister wants on-ground updates rather than just reports. His leadership style focuses on direct monitoring and accountability,” Ramanaidu said.

Emphasis on Farmer Welfare

The Minister reiterated that irrigation is the backbone of the agrarian economy, and without adequate water infrastructure, farmers continue to struggle. “The Chief Minister understands the plight of farmers who depend on seasonal rains. That’s why the government is focusing on creating assured irrigation sources through canals, reservoirs, and lift systems,” he said.

Ramanaidu announced that the government has allocated additional funds for repair and modernization of canal networks that have suffered from years of neglect. He also mentioned that water users’ associations will be strengthened to involve farmers in the maintenance and management of irrigation systems.

Boost to Employment and Rural Economy

The accelerated implementation of irrigation projects is also expected to boost employment in rural areas. “Thousands of workers will benefit from project construction activities. In addition, better irrigation will encourage double cropping, horticulture, and agro-industrial growth,” Ramanaidu noted.

He added that the government is also exploring ways to link irrigation development with industrial corridors and food processing parks. “We are looking at integrated development—where agriculture, irrigation, and industry support each other to create sustainable livelihoods,” he said.

Addressing Environmental and Inter-State Concerns

The Minister acknowledged that some irrigation projects in North Andhra face environmental clearance and inter-state coordination issues, especially concerning the Vamsadhara and Nagavali river systems. However, he assured that the government is holding constructive dialogues with neighboring states and the central agencies.

“We are committed to resolving these issues through discussion and technical collaboration. The Chief Minister has already instructed the irrigation department to ensure compliance with environmental norms and equitable water-sharing principles,” Ramanaidu explained.

Transparency and Accountability in Project Implementation

To ensure that the projects are completed on time and within budget, the government plans to adopt digital monitoring tools. Ramanaidu said, “We are introducing real-time tracking systems for irrigation works. Each project will have measurable milestones, and updates will be shared with the public through the department’s online portal.”

He also emphasized transparency in tenders and contractor selection. “Every rupee spent on irrigation must yield visible results. Corruption and inefficiency will not be tolerated,” he warned.

Expectations from the Chief Minister’s Visit

The Chief Minister’s upcoming visit to North Andhra is expected to energize local officials and reaffirm the government’s dedication to the region. Farmers’ associations and local representatives have welcomed the announcement, expressing hope that long-delayed projects will finally gain momentum.

“Naidu garu’s direct involvement will speed up execution. We hope the government will also address issues related to compensation, rehabilitation, and canal maintenance,” said a local farmers’ leader from Srikakulam.

Conclusion: A New Era for North Andhra’s Irrigation Landscape

Minister Ramanaidu’s announcement signals a renewed focus on North Andhra’s development, particularly in water infrastructure and agriculture. The Chief Minister’s visit, backed by clear directives and timelines, could mark the beginning of a new phase in the region’s growth story.

If the plans materialize as envisioned, North Andhra could soon transform into a model for sustainable water management and agricultural prosperity, ensuring that the benefits of Andhra Pradesh’s development reach every corner of the state.
