Diljit Dosanjh Reveals First Look of Punjab ’95 with Bold Statement: ‘I Challenge the Darkness’
Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has unveiled the intense first look of his upcoming film, Punjab ’95. Known for his versatility as an actor and singer, Diljit shared the poster on social media, accompanied by a powerful caption: “I Challenge the Darkness.”
The striking image portrays Diljit seated on the floor in a raw and rugged avatar. Wearing a simple kurta and turban, his bloodied and bruised face conveys a mix of pain and resilience, hinting at a deeply emotional and intense storyline.
Before revealing the first look, Diljit teased fans with a post announcing: “The much-awaited film is about to release in February. So we had to postpone the album. Stay tuned, folks!”
Punjab ’95 is a biopic based on the life of activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. The film, directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, faced significant hurdles last year with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Reports suggested that the CBFC recommended 85 to 120 cuts, including the contentious removal of Khalra’s name from the film. Critics and fans have expressed outrage, arguing that omitting his name would be disrespectful to his legacy and family.
Another controversial suggestion from the CBFC was to drop the title Punjab ’95, which refers to the year Khalra disappeared. Khalra, a human rights activist, went missing in September 1995. A decade later, six Punjab police officers were convicted of his murder.
The proposed edits have sparked widespread criticism, with many accusing the CBFC of attempting to dilute the film’s authenticity and cultural significance.
Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated film set to release in February!
