Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma shine in dominant second day for India at Dharamsala
On the second day of the Dharamsala Test, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma played exceptional innings, scoring centuries and leading India to a commanding position. Their partnership of 171 runs was filled with stylish strokes, setting the tone for India’s strong performance.
The day began with a thrilling morning session, during which India scored 129 runs without losing a wicket. Both Gill and Sharma displayed their signature shots, with Rohit’s pulls and cuts standing out, along with Gill’s unorthodox short-arm jabs and lofted shots.
England needed a breakthrough and it came from their captain Ben Stokes, who dismissed Rohit with a brilliant delivery. James Anderson then removed Gill, swinging the momentum in England’s favor. However, India’s new partnership between debutant Devdutt Padikkal (65) and Sarfaraz Khan (56) frustrated the English bowlers, adding 97 runs quickly.
Padikkal played some elegant shots, while Sarfaraz attacked the spinners and pacers alike. After tea, England struck back, dismissing both batsmen. Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja contributed before another double-strike from England’s Shoaib Bashir. Tom Hartley then removed Ravichandran Ashwin for a duck, but Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah resisted, frustrating the English bowlers.
India’s collective effort with the bat has put them in a commanding position, with a lead of over 250 runs and only two wickets remaining for England. With three days left in the match, England will need a remarkable performance to avoid defeat in Dharamsala.
