Yashasvi Jaiswal’s scintillating century, supported by a strong bowling performance, put India in a commanding position on the third day of the match. Jaiswal and Shubman Gill shared a crucial 158-run partnership before Jaiswal was forced to retire hurt due to back spasms. Their partnership came at a critical moment when India was struggling at 30/1 in the second innings after losing Rohit Sharma early.
Gill played a mature innings, providing solid support to Jaiswal’s aggressive batting. Jaiswal’s innings was filled with attacking strokes, especially against the spinners, and he reached his century off just 122 balls before retiring hurt on 104. Gill, on the other hand, played a composed innings, registering his second fifty-plus score of the series.
Despite their strong start, India stumbled towards the end of the day with Jaiswal’s injury and Rajat Patidar’s dismissal. However, earlier in the day, India’s bowlers had done well to secure a 126-run first innings lead. Kuldeep Yadav was particularly impressive, taking two wickets in the morning session.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Joe Root for the ninth time in Tests, while Kuldeep trapped Jonny Bairstow LBW.
