Jennifer Lopez opens up on Jane Fonda

Jennifer Lopez is making a unique move, stepping into the realm of movie musicals with her upcoming release ‘This Is Me…Now: A Love Story.’ Scheduled just in time for Valentine’s week, the film provides a “surrealistic, escapist” portrayal of the journey of a hopeless romantic through life. Doubling as both a musical and an album, it serves as a sequel to her 2002 record ‘This Is Me… Then,’ drawing inspiration from Lopez’s personal experiences, including romance, break-ups, reconnections, and marriage to Ben Affleck.

During a global press conference covered by ETimes, Lopez shared insights into the film and discussed her approach to narrating her story through song. She expressed gratitude for the collaboration with director Dave Meyers, who understood her vision. She also acknowledged the support of her husband, Ben Affleck, recognizing the importance of telling a compelling story beyond the musical aspect.

‘This Is Me… Now: A Love Story’ boasts impressive costumes, breathtaking choreography, and star-studded cameos from celebrities such as Jane Fonda, Sofia Vergara, Post Malone, Jay Shetty, Trevor Noah, Derek Hough, and Sadhguru, among others. Reflecting on the challenges of incorporating multiple celebrity cameos and orchestrating their scenes, Lopez candidly admitted to facing difficulties.

“We obviously had quite a few challenges. Some came on the same day, and some didn’t, but we had to make it work. We did whatever we could,” she acknowledged. Director Dave Meyers elaborated on the logistical hurdles, revealing that most of the cameos were shot separately. He emphasized the editing challenges, given the script revisions and the need to guide personal friends of Lopez through their performances.

Lopez shared amusing anecdotes about the hesitations of her celebrity guests on set. Assuring them that she wouldn’t make them look crazy, she recalled saying, “Just trust me. It’s gonna be fine. I would never make you look crazy, and if it looks crazy, we’ll throw it in the garbage. Don’t worry about it.” Fortunately, the end result turned out well, with many celebrities excited about the film.

As the anticipation builds for the release of ‘This Is Me… Now,’ Lopez expressed satisfaction with the positive reception the film has received so far. She remarked, “I mean, the reaction has been… I mean, I could, with everything that we’ve been through, it’s so kind of like satisfying to know that people love it.”

‘This Is Me… Now’ is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on February 16, 2024.
