MCG to Debut as Venue for Women’s Ashes D/N Test

Cricket Australia has revealed the schedule for the upcoming home summer, marking a historic occasion as the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) prepares to host the Australian Women’s team in a Test match for the first time since 1949. The spotlight will not only be on the Ashes series against England but also on series against India and New Zealand.

The highlight of the multi-format Ashes series, a D/N Test, will commence on January 30, 2025, at the MCG. This match will hold the distinction of being the venue’s first-ever D/N Test and only the second pink-ball game between the two nations, following their encounter in Sydney in 2017.

Leading up to the Test, the teams will compete in three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODI series is set to start on January 12 at the North Sydney Oval, with subsequent matches on January 14 and 17. The T20I series will begin at the SCG on January 20, wrapping up at the Adelaide Oval on January 25.

Mcg for Womens Ashes

Before England’s arrival, Australia’s women’s team is slated to host New Zealand and India. The series against New Zealand will consist of three T20Is, scheduled for September 19, 22, and 24. Following this, India will tour for a three-match ODI series starting December 5 at the Allan Border Field. The series will continue at the same venue on December 8 and conclude at the WACA on December 11, promising a thrilling cricket season ahead.

The Australian summer of cricket is set to be a landmark season, highlighted by the Melbourne Cricket Ground hosting its first women’s Test match since 1949, a notable event in Cricket Australia’s announced schedule. Alongside the eagerly anticipated Ashes series against England, which will feature the MCG’s inaugural D/N Test in January 2025, Australia’s women’s team will also welcome New Zealand and India for competitive series. The action-packed schedule begins with New Zealand’s T20I series in September, followed by India’s ODI visit in December, and culminates in a multi-format Ashes battle, underscoring a significant period for women’s cricket down under, filled with historic moments and thrilling matches.
