Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their sensational run in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) with a resounding 100-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The win marked their sixth consecutive triumph in the competition and propelled them to the top of the IPL points table.
Following the emphatic win, MI pacer Deepak Chahar spoke highly of the team’s collective performance and praised the invaluable role played by senior bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult in creating pressure during the powerplay overs.
“Bowling With Bumrah and Boult Makes My Job Easier” – Deepak Chahar
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Chahar highlighted how bowling alongside world-class talents like Bumrah and Boult has helped elevate his own performance. He emphasized the sense of security and balance that comes from having such experienced players at either end.
“When you are bowling with world-class partners, it becomes easy for you, because if you have a bad over, they are there to back you up by chipping in with breakthroughs. It then becomes easy for me to come and bowl to the new batter,” Chahar said, as quoted on MI’s official website.
Chahar acknowledged the international experience that Bumrah and Boult bring, stating that it creates a threatening bowling unit, especially in the first six overs of the match. “These guys have done well in international cricket and that experience is helping me. When you bowl as a group, it becomes difficult for the opposition,” he added.
He also expressed satisfaction with the all-round contributions from both the batting and bowling departments in recent matches, crediting the team’s chemistry and momentum.
“When you are performing as a team and you have confidence, then you can take some extra time to settle in. So, I think it is the collective teamwork that was on display,” Chahar noted.
On MI’s rise to the top of the points table, Chahar emphasized staying grounded and focused. “I think it is good to be on top. When you finish in the top two, you get an extra chance. Also, the momentum is with us. As a player and as a team, you try to focus on one game at a time without thinking about the result.”
MI Batting Fires, Bowling Dominates
In the match, Rajasthan Royals opted to bowl first, a decision that quickly backfired. MI openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma laid a solid foundation with an explosive 116-run stand. Rickelton scored 61 off 38 balls (7 fours, 3 sixes), while Rohit added 53 from 36 balls (9 fours). After their dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav (48* off 23) and Hardik Pandya (48* off 23) kept the momentum going, finishing the innings at a commanding 217/2 in 20 overs.
Rajasthan Royals struggled right from the outset in the chase. MI’s bowlers, led by Karn Sharma (3/23), Trent Boult (3/28), and Jasprit Bumrah (2/15), dismantled the top and middle order. RR were reduced to 47/5 in the powerplay and were eventually bowled out for just 117 in 16.1 overs. Jofra Archer top-scored with 30 runs.
Hardik Pandya also chipped in with a wicket, completing an all-round team performance.
Points Table and Player of the Match
The win took Mumbai Indians to the top of the table with 14 points from 11 matches (7 wins, 4 losses). Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, dropped to eighth place and are now officially out of the playoff race with only 6 points.
Ryan Rickelton was named Player of the Match for his explosive half-century and strong opening partnership with Rohit Sharma.
MI will now shift their focus to their next match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Wankhede Stadium on May 6.
