Did you know Prabhas turned down THIS role in Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat ?
Rebel star Prabhas, celebrated for his widespread appeal across India, once considered a prominent role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2018 blockbuster Padmaavat. Bhansali offered him the part of Maharawal Ratan Singh, the esteemed Rajput king ruling around 1302-1303 CE, a central figure alongside Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. Despite the exciting opportunity, Prabhas ultimately chose not to take the role.
As casting for Padmaavat progressed, Bhansali set his sights on Prabhas for the portrayal of Maharawal Ratan Singh. Inspired by Rebel star’s powerful performance in Baahubali, Bhansali envisioned him bringing the ideal energy and presence to the character, fitting perfectly with the filmmaker’s vision. Prabhas’s pan-Indian popularity also made him an especially appealing choice.
However, a report from The Quint reveals that Rebel star declined the role. At the time, he was busy filming Baahubali 2, and after reviewing the script, felt underwhelmed by the role. Rebel star believed it did not match the epic scale of his Baahubali character and carefully considered the high expectations his audience now had. Speculation suggests he wanted a role as prominent as Deepika Padukone’s character, which he felt Maharawal Ratan Singh’s role did not fulfill. Ultimately, Shahid Kapoor accepted the role, contributing greatly to the film’s success.
Rebel star currently has a robust lineup of projects, including The Raja Saab, Fauji, Spirit, and Salaar 2.
