‘Iron Man’ Star Robert Downey Jr. Returning to MCU

The anticipation for Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is nearing its end. However, Downey will not reprise his legendary role as Iron Man. Instead, he will adopt a new persona, stepping into the shoes of the notorious Doctor Doom. Downey is expected to swap his Iron Man armor for Doctor Doom’s iconic green cape and metal mask as he embodies the villainous Victor Von Doom in the Russo Brothers’ forthcoming films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

At Saturday’s panel, Kevin Feige outlined the future trajectory of the MCU, unveiling details about the next “Captain America” film, including the introduction of Ford’s character. He also announced Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: Doomsday as the titles of the next two blockbuster superhero team-up films, with Doomsday set for release in 2026.Feige stated that all the actors revealed at the event would feature in the forthcoming Avengers films, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.

Anthony Russo reflected on their journey, saying, “When we directed Avengers: Endgame, Joe and I genuinely thought it was the end of our Marvel Cinematic Universe chapter, having invested all our passion, love, and creativity into The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame. That four-film arc was profoundly fulfilling and left us creatively exhausted. However, through a very unique story, Joe and I now see a potential new path forward with you.”The Russo Brothers described Secret Wars as “the most monumental story Marvel Comics has ever told,” with Joe Russo sharing that it was the first comic book series he read as a child that sparked his love for comics.

The Kang Dynasty, following significant delays due to the removal of Jonathan Majors from the role of Kang, who was convicted of reckless assault and harassment. At a recent event, the Russo Brothers emphasized the importance of casting the right actor to drive the next phase of the Avengers storyline. Initially, Doctor Doom was speculated to be the primary antagonist in the forthcoming Fantastic Four reboot, helmed by Matt Shakman. However, it was confirmed on Friday that Galactus will now be the central villain facing Pedro Pascal and the team in 2025.
