Saif Ali Khan Stabbing: Courtroom Drama Erupts as Two Lawyers Compete to Represent Alleged Attacker
\The term “court dramas” might conjure up gripping OTT thrillers, but on Sunday, Mumbai’s real-life courtroom saw an intense legal tussle over the high-profile stabbing case involving Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan.
Mumbai Police’s manhunt ended when Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, the prime suspect, was arrested in Thane. Shehzad is accused of breaking into Khan’s Bandra apartment with the intent to steal and stabbing the actor multiple times. Following his arrest, the heavily guarded suspect was presented before the Bandra metropolitan magistrate court.
During the hearing, when asked if he had any complaints against the police, Shehzad denied any grievances. He was then moved to the defendant’s box at the back of the courtroom. The proceedings took a dramatic turn when two lawyers vied to represent Shehzad.
The first lawyer stepped forward to get Shehzad’s signature on the vakalatnama (a legal document authorizing representation). Before this could be completed, a second lawyer pushed his way to Shehzad and secured his signature instead. This created confusion about who would officially represent the accused. To resolve the matter, the magistrate suggested both lawyers jointly handle the case, which they agreed to.
The court ultimately remanded Shehzad to police custody for five days.
Meanwhile, Saif Ali Khan is recovering from his injuries. Doctors have confirmed his condition is stable, and he is expected to be discharged soon.
