Salt and Starc shine as KKR dominate LSG

Mitchell Starc led KKR’s strong bowling performance at Eden Gardens on Sunday (April 14), followed by an impressive batting display by Phil Salt, as Kolkata Knight Riders secured their first victory against Lucknow Super Giants. Starc’s figures of 3 for 28 restricted LSG to 161/7, and Salt’s unbeaten 89 off 47 balls, along with an unbeaten 38 from Shreyas Iyer, guided KKR to victory with 4.2 overs to spare.

KKR’s bowling shines

In their pursuit, IPL debutant Shamar Joseph had a tough start, conceding 22 runs, including extras, in the first over, which was the most expensive opening over in IPL 2024. Despite some early wickets, KKR maintained a strong scoring rate in the powerplay, largely thanks to Salt’s aggressive batting.

Salt’s fifty propels KKR forward

Salt continued his aggressive batting, reaching his fifty off 26 balls and guiding KKR past 100 in the 10th over. Shreyas supported him well, and the duo built a strong partnership, taking KKR closer to the target.

Salt’s blitz seals the deal for KKR

Salt accelerated towards the end, hitting boundaries at will and finishing the game with 14 fours and three sixes, ensuring KKR’s victory with ease.

LSG’s innings

LSG started well, with Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul scoring quickly. However, wickets at regular intervals hindered their progress. Despite a brisk 45 from Nicholas Pooran, LSG could only manage to reach 161/7 in their 20 overs.

KKR’s comprehensive win against LSG marks a positive turn in their IPL 2024 campaign, providing them with momentum as they prepare to face Rajasthan Royals in their next match. The team will be buoyed by the strong performances of Mitchell Starc with the ball and Phil Salt with the bat, indicating a well-rounded effort from the squad. On the other hand, LSG will look to regroup and bounce back in their upcoming game against Chennai Super Kings, aiming to improve their performance and secure a victory.

KKR’s next match is against Rajasthan Royals at home, while LSG will face Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana stadium after a four-day break.
