Silverwood: We’re Creating a New Style of Cricket

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh Gear Up for ODI Series as Both Teams Focus on Development and Improvement

Sri Lanka’s head coach, Chris Silverwood, highlighted the team’s focus on building a new style of cricket in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka, having finished ninth in the 2023 World Cup, missed out on qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy, adding extra significance to their rebuilding process.

“We’re in a new cycle now, so we’re again building towards a style of brand of cricket that we want to play in the next World Cup. And that’s something that we’re trying to invent within the team, and this again is part of that process of doing that,” Silverwood said, emphasizing the team’s aim to continue the positive momentum from recent series.

Despite not being part of the Champions Trophy, Silverwood highlighted the pride and motivation of playing for one’s country, which remains a driving force for Sri Lanka. The return of Pathum Nissanka, who missed the T20I series due to injury, is a significant boost for Sri Lanka, with Silverwood praising Nissanka’s exceptional performance in recent matches.

On the other hand, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back after a challenging year in 2023. Despite a below-par performance in the World Cup and finishing eighth, Bangladesh aims to improve their ODI record and play as a cohesive unit.

The ODI series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka begins on March 13 in Chattogram, followed by matches on March 15 and 18, with both teams eager to make a strong start in their quest for improvement and success.
