A check from Apple Computer Company, signed by co-founder Steve Jobs, is currently up for auction. The online auction is being hosted by RR Auction’s Remarkable Rarities. According to the company, this rare piece, dating back to the early days of Apple, has been open for bidding since earlier this month. The handwritten check, signed by Jobs on July 16, 1976, was made out to Elmar Electronics for $10.52. RR Auctions estimates that this unique item will sell for at least $25,000, with the current bid already reaching $12,650 after 14 offers.
This isn’t the first Apple check to be auctioned by RR Auctions. Last year, the auction house successfully sold another Apple check, also signed by Steve Jobs. That check, dated July 23, 1976, and made out to Radio Shack for $4.01, fetched over $46,000 in 2023.
Steve Jobs-Signed Cassette Tape Also Up for Auction
- In addition to the check, RR Auctions has listed a cassette tape signed by Steve Jobs in the same auction.
- This cassette was used as an early data storage and retrieval method for the Apple II computer and is the first known instance of a Jobs-signed cassette.
- Currently, the autographed tape has received a top bid of $2,383 after eight offers, with the auction house predicting it will sell for at least $10,000.
- Though outdated by modern standards, the cassette interface system—designed by Steve Wozniak—was a major leap in Apple’s early computing, offering data storage and retrieval speeds four times faster than other systems of the era, all at a reduced cost to the company.
