TDP Focus on Telangana: CM Chandrababu Focuses on Strengthening the Party
For the past decade, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has stayed away from Telangana politics. However, the party is now considering focusing on Telangana. This topic was discussed during the TDP Politburo meeting held in Amaravati. With over ten percent of the vote bank still in Telangana, the decision was made to reactivate the party there. A resolution was passed to restore TDP’s former glory in Telangana.
If TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu decides to focus on Telangana, where he will begin is still a mystery. With much of the TDP cadre at the village level shifting towards BRS and Congress, the party aims to become active before the upcoming local body elections. The idea is to field candidates in the gram panchayat elections if those who joined other parties return to the fold. However, given that the cadre at the village level is divided, the TDP leadership is also considering the feasibility of contesting in municipal and ZP elections.
Before strengthening TDP in Telangana, the state needs a strong president, executive committee, and leaders. After the state’s bifurcation, L. Ramana was appointed as the Telangana president. After he joined BRS, Kasani Gnaneshwar was appointed as the president. However, Kasani also joined BRS during the 2023 Assembly elections, leading to the temporary appointment of Bakkani Narsimhulu as president, who continues in that role.
There is ongoing discussion among TDP’s leaders that, to gain more national exposure, the party must play a crucial role in Telangana. To regain its former glory, Chandrababu Naidu is focused on retaining the existing cadre and prioritizing those who carry the yellow flag at the village level. If necessary, he plans to strengthen the TDP in Telangana through nominated posts in Andhra Pradesh. After assuming power in Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu visited NTR Trust Bhavan and held a special meeting with local leaders. They discussed the party president and membership registration to revive the party’s former glory. In yesterday’s meeting, the Politburo also expressed interest in strengthening the party in Telangana, and Chandrababu Naidu is planning to prepare an action plan for this soon. In conclusion, after a decade of inactivity in Telangana, TDP may soon become active again.
