The government has put forth a five-year purchase plan, and it is now up to the Farmers Union to decide on its acceptance.

Following the conclusion of the fourth round of discussions between Union ministers and farmer leaders in Chandigarh, Union Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the media, expressing satisfaction with the positive and extensive dialogue with the representatives of farmers. He highlighted the constructive environment in which the discussions took place, emphasizing the exploration of new ideas that would be beneficial for the farmers. The farmer union representatives provided positive suggestions that, according to Goyal, would bring advantages to the farmers of Punjab and Haryana, as well as benefit the overall agricultural economy and consumers across the country.

Goyal went on to announce an innovative proposal put forth by the government. The idea involves the collaboration of government-promoted cooperative societies like NCCF (National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India) and NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India). Under this plan, a contract for the next five years will be formed, enabling the purchase of products from farmers at MSP without any quantity restrictions. The objective of the meeting was to address the ongoing farmer protests, which include demands for the legalization of Minimum Support Price (MSP) among other issues.
